Practical information on arrivals

Mauritius Airport welcomes long-haul flights from Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia at all hours of the day and night. The majority of European flights (Paris-CDG, Paris-Orly, Lyon, Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, Zurich) land early in the morning, between 5 am and 9 am, after an overnight flight of around 11 hours. Flights from Dubai (Emirates), Istanbul (Turkish), Johannesburg (Air Mauritius, FlySafair), Nairobi (Kenya Airways) and Mumbai (Air India, Air Mauritius) arrive spread throughout the day.

After landing, allow 30 to 60 minutes to collect your luggage and clear customs. Mauritius applies strict restrictions on the import of food, plants and animal products — any incorrectly declared item may be confiscated and result in a fine. Checks are thorough but efficient.

Once you leave the arrivals area, several options are available to reach your accommodation: car rental at the counter (Pingouin, AKD, Sixt, Europcar and around a dozen other agencies), an approved taxi or a pre-booked private transfer — the latter being particularly recommended for an early-morning arrival after a long flight.
